The focus of Vector's design is concentrated on five main areas: safety, quick installation, tested reliability, standardised quality and environmental friendliness.

VEO’s new medium-voltage switchgear, Vector, is air-insulated, arc-proof and equipped with a withdrawable vacuum circuit breaker. The launch of this latest innovation in Finnish-made modular switchgear takes place at the Tampere Energy Fair on 22.10.2018.

"Both safety and ease of use are guaranteed through Vector's metal-enclosed, compartmented construction, separate busbar, circuit breaker, cable and secondary compartment."

Vector is a completely new type of medium-voltage switchgear designed by VEO. The focus of its innovative design is concentrated on five main areas: safety, quick installation, tested reliability, standardised quality and environmental friendliness. Top Finnish expertise lies behind all the design work. At VEO, the knowhow is strengthened by more than 10,000 customer projects and the largest switchgear factory in the Nordic countries.

“All the operations of Vector switchgear can be made with the doors closed. Both safety and ease of use are guaranteed through its metal-enclosed, compartmented construction, separate busbar, circuit breaker, cable and secondary compartment. It also has the highest loss of service continuity class LSC 2B. In addition, the structure prevents the spread of damage caused by arc faults, thereby reducing the need for repairs, which shortens the length of distribution breaks. In addition, the switchgear has the most spacious cable room on the market, making medium voltage cable connections easier,” says Ari Pätsi, VEO’s Substation Development Manager.

A prime focus of the Vector design is on reliability. Vector medium-voltage switchgear meets all the requirements regarding the latest standards and has been approved in type tests made at the CESI laboratory in Germany.

“With the type tests and comprehensive factory tests, we can guarantee not only the quality of the product, but also a long operating time. Our service, optimisation and other expert services take care of the functionality of the equipment throughout its lifecycle. The design of the Vector also takes environmental values into account, since the switchgear is SF6 free, and nearly 100 per cent of the production material is recyclable,” explains Pätsi, whose ideas were behind the Vector concept. Pätsi has had many years of experience designing and commissioning substations and switchgear. And over those years, he has compiled a list of important suggestions for improvements. These ideas are now being used in the Vector design, to create a modern modular product incorporating the latest innovations in the field.

The launch of VEO’s Vector medium-voltage switchgear takes place at the Tampere Energy Fair. For VEO, this launch represents the start of a new era – the first VEKE switchgear has already been on the market for 20 years.

“Such products are not launched very often, so it has been an honour to be involved in the product development team. Although the project was challenging, we are very pleased with the outcome. The Vector product family is a strong display of our know-how, and along with its launch, we can offer our customers an even better service in medium-voltage switchgear.”
